May 11, 2001:
I am the proud ticket holder of a flight to Philadelphia on June 4 where
"staging" will begin. Basically that means they will give us
shots and tell us more about what we're in for. On June 6 we fly from
JFK to Brussels to Abidjan (the economic capital of Cote d'Ivoire). Ack!!
This is really it!!! :)
They also sent two large packets of info, including a list of what to pack,
lots of articles on cultural adjustment, and a letter to the families of Peace
Corps Volunteers. I'll type the letter in a couple days so you can post
it too. It basically says, "Don't worry."
I didn't realize the three months of training will be entirely in French!
Look...something else to lose sleep over! I'm sure I'll be fine, but you
know how I like to worry...
Otherwise, all is well. I'm in Austin today, heading back to Atlanta
on Sunday. I had a great visit with Jennifer Rowland and Rachael Wright
the past two days in Palestine, TX.
