E-Mail from June 30, 2001:

Things are still going well here, and the things I am frustrated with are the things everyone is frustrated with.  For example, we're all tired all the time, and we're tired of being tired.  But, that's the schedule we will live with for the next 7 weeks, so we're hoping to adapt.  For me, I'm taking my laundry out, rather than doing it myself.  That saves some time.  Also, we're getting together once a week to party and blow off steam in a big way.  Tonight is Mexican fiesta night.  We're all hoping to be hung over tomorrow.  That is certain to reduce our fatigue!! :)

It's at least helpful to hear that I'm in the same boat as everyone else.  In fact, I haven't had the medical or stomach problems that lots of the others have had.  Lucky girl!!

They've turned up the heat on us with our French lessons.  That was pressure no one felt like we needed.  But, I understand... in 7 short weeks, we will be on our own and will need to have solid French by then.  We're all soooo tired of speaking French!!! :)  It will be ok, though.  The more I make myself speak French, the better my French becomes.  Funny how practice is rewarded like that!

We spent the week building a latrine for the elementary school next to our classroom.  They have to go in the brush right now.  It's been hot dirty work, but we are all glad to be doing something so productive.  Lots of kids come to watch or help.  Very cool.

I'm headed home for a bucket bath and clean clothes.  Looking forward to some emails or snailmails!!

Love you all.    ...Kate
